COVID-19 cases have seen a rise in the city of Mumbai, and observing the same, the railways department are taking several measures to prevent the spread. In a recently released statement, the railways announced that wearing a mask is compulsory and if passengers flout the rules, they will have to pay a fine of INR 500.

Officials from the department will be checking the same in trains and station premises, to ensure citizens follow the norms as directed. 

Furthermore, spitting or any similar act, will also result in fine. It is expected that a passenger has to cooperate with the government in the fight against COVID-19. The decision has been taken to ensure passengers support in maintaining a healthy environment and thereby avoiding the risk of infecting others. 

The announcement was made by the Indian Railways which states that all activities which affect the cleanliness of the railway premises and trains will be fined, and officials have been given strict orders to collect fines from respective passengers.

Meanwhile, the Central Railways has also appealed to the passengers to follow the guidelines of wearing masks, maintaining distance, washing hands regularly and using sanitizers to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The message was issued in a released shared by the Public Relations Department of the Central Railways.
