Local MP Rajan Vichare has demanded the introduction of a bus service for passengers travelling in the recently launched Ro-Ro ferry service between Bhayandar and Vasai. In his letter, Vichare requested to extend the bus service from Uttan to Bhayander railway station to the jetty, which would bring great relief to commuters.

“The local fishermen from the coastal areas of Uttan have to travel to Vasai frequently as there is a fisheries department in Vasai. They avail the bus service run by the administration. However, they will have to get down at Bhayandar station,” Vichare said. From there, passengers have to walk to the jetty as there is no other means of transport. Therefore, bus services should be increased to reduce the plight of the public, he said.

When contacted, Additional Municipal Commissioner Aniket Manorkar confirmed the report of receiving the MPs' request. "After analysing the extended feasibility, we will soon submit the report to the municipal commissioner who will take the final decision," he said.

"Besides catering to the needs of the villagers in the coastal areas, extending the bus route to the jetty will also benefit the people living in the rural and urban areas of Bhayander”, said former corporator Omprakash Garodia. However, the fish market coming in the way of the proposed expansion appears to be a major obstacle in this proposal.

Meanwhile, fishing community leader Bernard DiMello has requested Vichare to build a new passenger jetty at the square in Uttan and make it a ferry station. "Change in route from Bhayander to Vasai Chowk will be beneficial for people living in villages (near Chowk)," he said.
