A regional transport officer in Thane on Thursday, July 10, urged all the schools to inculcate road safety as a part of the daily education for students, emphasizing it as a key initiative to reduce accidents and promoting a culture of responsible road use from an early age.
Speaking at an event in a school here, RTO official Hemangi Patil emphasised the vital role schools and teachers play in shaping traffic behaviour.
“Just as you teach the Maharashtra Geet daily in schools, road safety should also be a daily lesson,” she said.
Children listen to their teachers more than their parents, Patil remarked.
“If children start following traffic rules early, the number of accidents will drastically reduce,” she asserted.
Maharashtra’s Thane city has seen a drop in the number of accidents, and reiterated her goal of achieving a ‘zero-accident city’ in the near future, she added.
