The general public in the city is waiting for the Mumbai Local Train services to resume. After thorough consideration, the state allowed the trains to resume operations in a phase-wise manner, however, the public is not allowed yet, keeping the growing COVID-19 cases in mind.

At present, only workers from the essential services, Dabbawala, lawyers and women are allowed in the local trains, on a selective basis, with strict protocols on guidelines. Officials worry that the crowd gathering at the stations and in trains would lead to an increase in coronavirus cases.

In addition to this, even religious places in the city are also closed. While Jain temples have been allowed to remain open on the occasion of Diwali, there is no word on the other religious places.

State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope speaking about these said that the decision regarding opening local trains for the general public and religious places can be taken after Diwali.

The festival of Diwali is on November 14 (Saturday). The five-day festivities start from November 12 with Dhanteras and will end on Monday with Bhai Dooj.

Tope passed the statement regarding these issues while he was in Kalyan. He was at Kalyan to review the coronavirus situation in the area. Rajesh Tope also clarified that the final decision regarding opening of railway service and temple will be taken by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

CM in his speech on November 8 too had mentioned the state government is in talks with the Central Government, and officials will soon announce the decision regarding the resumption of local train services for the public.
