Over the last few years, BEST has been running consistently in a loss.
A strike that entered the fifth day has added to the same and is worth ₹12 Cr. Amidst this, if the state accepts their demand, then BEST might have to spend ₹540 Cr. According to the sources, BEST officials have proposed the state government for an additional payment to meet up the demands.

If the demands are met, BEST officials might increase fare between ₹4 to ₹23. At present, commuters pay ₹8 for 2 km but if the proposal is accepted then commuters will end up paying ₹12 for the same.
It is also believed that if the proposal gets a green signal, then commuters might find an alternative to BEST buses. On a daily basis, around 25 to 30 lakh commuters travel on a bus.
