Vile Parle’s Terminal 1 has been closed for domestic flights and passengers for almost a year, but will soon reopen as per a new report. As of now, all flights, including international, leave from Terminal 2 of the Mumbai Airport at Sahar.

GoAir will move its domestic flight operations to Mumbai’s Terminal 1 starting March 10, a spokesperson for the airline said on Thursday. However, GoAir’s international flights will continue to operate from T2.

Further, budget airline IndiGo is expected to move a portion of its domestic operations to Terminal 1 over the next month.

However, IndiGo is yet to make an official announcement on the matter. It’s worth pointing out that both IndiGo and GoAir operated primarily from T1 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

Although flight operations were partially resumed in May 2020, all airlines had to cut down the number of flights owing to the pandemic-related restrictions put in place by the Central Government. The reduced frequency of flights operating out of Mumbai meant that flights had to be moved to Terminal 2.

Even as some of the restrictions are eased, the GoAir spokesperson added that they will carry out enhanced cleaning of their flights to provide an adequate layer of protection for passengers as well as its staff.

“We will continue to regularly disinfect the check-in kiosks, gate areas, check-in counters and ticketing counters,” the spokesperson added.
