While traveling in the cabs, one of the major issue that a lot of people face is that of safety. To address this concern a new cab aggregator - Palkhi has announced that it will be instaling CCTVs in all its taxis to film passengers as an extra safety feature. This announcement wad made by the top company official on Tuesday.

Palkhi cab will be launching its operations in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, from February 1. They have announced that they will be making this live CCTV feature available at an extra cost, which would be "nominal". With the help of this feature, the family members or friends of the passengers can watch their entire journey on their smartphones and will help in ensuring that they have a safe trip everytime.

What's more is that the recording of these CCTV will be available on the company's cloud storage for three months and will act as a deterrent for rude or drunk passengers who misbehave with the drivers.

Talking to IANS, COO of Palkhi cab Arif Vanoo said, "We may charge around Rs 15/20 per ride and the passengers will have the option to switch off the CCTVs if they are not comfortable.": He said the price was nothing when the matter is of security of women, children or senior citizens is involved.

In case of any emergency during the ride, we shall be alerted by a pop-up message and get into action immediately," said founder-CEO Praful Shinde of Palkhi Cabs, which was launched in January 2019.

In Mumbai, there are already plenty of cab aggregating apps that are available. While Uber and Ola are the ones that are most commonly used, there are some who till date prefer to travel by the traditional kaali peelis. Palkhi Cabs' is entering this competitive space and looking to make a mark with its add on security features. It will kick start its operations with a fleet of 200 cars. All the cars will have a camera on the dashboard that will capture visuals of the road. There will be an additional camera in the rear of the car to capture the passengers, and the feed for the same will be monitored by a central control room of the company.

Since all passengers may not be comfortable with the idea of being filmed throughout their rides, the control of this camera will be with them so that they can switch it off if they want.
