With Praveen Pardeshi appointed as the new Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner, the civic body has changed its stance on the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking. In a relief for the transport company, BMC has decided to give ₹100 crore to BEST every month until their budgets are merged.

Alongside, at the all-party groups leaders' meeting, a proposal to lease around 3000 buses for BEST was laid down. While the approval on the same is yet to be made, it would be a crucial decision and will play a major role in bringing the transport company out of deficit.

On Thursday, Commissioner Pardeshi had proposed to lease around 3000 new buses along with the existing 3000 buses for the transport company. It is expected that this will save ₹550 crore for BEST. The proposal is a part of the plan for BMC.

The plan consists of various proposals such as providing subsidy to its employees for buying flats, providing scholarship to employees' children, and many more.

Meanwhile, the BEST Undertaking’s power wing owes Tata Power around ₹500 crore and recently, Tata Power had written to the company asking it to clear the dues. In the meantime, the group leaders had organised a meeting at the BMC on Thursday which only had the BEST on its agenda.

In which, the corporators refused to provide a grant to the power wing but they decided to give ₹100 crore to the transport division every month.
