The Versova creek bridge located on the Ghodbunder junction will remain shut for inspection for seven hours on March 5, Thursday. The passengers have been asked to plan their journey accordingly on Thursday.

The vehicular movement on the two-lane bridge will remain closed from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The traffic will be diverted to the Mumbai-bound two-lane bridge. Three years ago, the 49-year-old Gujarat-bound bridge was rehabilitated by the authorities in May 2017.

The bridge is currently being inspected for further wear and tear. In the meantime, the Mumbai-bound bridge will cater to vehicles travelling on the up and the down side.

Earlier, the bridge had been partially shut down in November 2018 for maintenance purposes. The creek bridge is known to cut down transport time, making the journey quicker.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has undertaken the construction of a six-lane bridge which will cut down the travel time between Vasai/Virar and Bhayander by around 45 minutes.

Currently, commuters take the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway to reach these destinations. However, the work on this bridge is only expected to be concluded by September 2024.

Mumbai has undertaken multiple infrastructure projects over the past few years with multiple bridges and roads making key parts of the city more accessible to the locals. One can only hope that the MMRDA manages to meet the deadline of Sep 2024 for the Vasai - Bhayander creek bridge.

In other news, the speed limit of the JJ flyover has been increased to 60 kmph, with a maximum of 35 kmph around the curves. The decision was made after there were repeated complaints of congestion on the route. Issuing a notification, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) changed speed limits on 10 other routes.
