12 new AC local services are slated to be introduced. With this, the aggregate number of AC locals will increase from 20 to 32.

Considering the popularity of AC locals, reports state that the Western Railways (WR) will be increasing the number of AC local trains on the Mumbai suburban network from Monday, May 16. Based on accounts, 12 new AC local services are slated to be introduced. With this, the aggregate number of AC locals will increase from 20 to 32. 

According to narratives, the WR has elaborated on how the fares for the AC local travel have been significantly curtailed from May 5. It added that considering the fall in fares, the number of travellers in these AC locals has risen. It has been reported that a single journey up to 10 km in the AC locals costs INR 35 now. 

A railway official has been quoted in narratives elucidating that from the additional 12 services introduced, six each will be in the Up and Down directions. The official added that the Up direction will give five services between Virar and Churchgate, and one between Bhayandar and Churchgate.

Likewise, in the Down direction, there will be four services between Churchgate and Virar, one each between Churchgate – Bhayandar and Andheri – Virar remarked the official.

Recently, the Central Railways (CR) also augmented the number of AC local services. Its increase has been of 12 AC services on the Mainline on weekdays which will increase from 44 to 56. However, there will be no increase in the total number of services which will remain at 1810 as at present.
