With several passengers travelling without tickets on the suburban railway system, the Railways has collected a fine of ₹1,00,00,000 crores.

Till now the general public is not allowed to travel via local trains and there are restrictions in place. Despite all this, the number of people travelling without tickets has witnessed an increase. As a result, the Railway Security Force carried out special security operations in order to combat the situation.

According to sources, a total of 25,982 people were found without tickets. Moreover, a total of 19,172 passengers were found without a ticket on the suburban route whereas a total of 6,810 passengers were found on the mail-express route. Apart from this, action has also been taken against passengers travelling on local trains with fake identity cards.

Meanwhile, the Railways, in a statement, had earlier stated that the women are barred from carrying their children with them while using the suburban railway system. Moreover, the rule is applicable in both Central Railways and Western Railways. The state government had earlier allowed women to travel on the Mumbai locals. However, it was observed that several female passengers would carry their children along with them while travelling. As a result, to stop children from boarding the local trains, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel is to be deployed at each entry gate.

The state government had earlier written to the railways and the centre seeking permission for women to be allowed on the Mumbai locals. After thorough consideration, the permission was approved, and women were given consent to travel by the Mumbai local trains from October 21, 2020.
