Popular Bollywood actress Nimmi passed away on March 25, 2020, at the age of 88. Reports stare that she was not keeping well and breathed her last today, at a private hospital in Santacruz.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta shared the news on his social media account.


Born in 1932, Nawab Banoo was popularly known as Nimmi was known for her contribution to Indian cinema. She gave many hits in the 1950s and early 1960s and was popular for her many characters, most of them were of a village girl or a woman. Her films like Aam, Pooja Ke Pjool, Mere Mehboob, Akashdeep etc. were popular.

Her work was recognised a lot after the 1949 film Barsaat, and she was offered many films thereafter.  offers. Popular among the veterans, Nimmi was known for her unique style of acting and also developed a loyal fan base.

She was one of the few actors who had worked with many known names like Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor and others. Besides the male leads, Nimmi was also a part of films which included Suraiya, Geeta Bali, Madhubala, Meena Kumari and many others. But after working in Deedar and Daag, in 1951-52 respectively, Nimmi's pairing with veteran actor Dilip Kumar was an instant hit.

Nimmi was married to Raza, a scriptwriter, who passed away in 2007.
