For many decades now, filmmakers in Bollywood have been making psychological thrillers, attempting to deliver it with a new plot and story. Over the years, films like Andhadhun, Ugly, Ek Hasina Thi and many others, have made a mark in the genre, and joining the list with an aim to impress the audience is Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut starrer Judgementall Hai kya!

First things first – the lead characters are well written for the film, and the casting is to-the-point. Bobby, played by Kangana Ranaut, deals with acute psychosis. Despite her treatment at different asylums, thoughts and voices in her head keep bothering Bobby, which lead to several situations. She is in a relationship, but sadly it isn’t a happy one, only because she somehow thinks that happy relationships don’t exist. Bobby even doubts her neighbours, Rima and Keshav, who live a perfectly normal life. But then a murder takes place, and there begin Bobby’s doubts regarding Keshav.

Kanika Dhillon’s screenplay and director Prakash Kovelamudi’s thought to execute this story deserves applause. Their approach towards the film is quirky and edgy. The team has succeeded in grasping your attention within the first few minutes.

The vision of presenting the film in a different manner to that of other thrillers, comes across well, as the camera work, play of light, etc. come across well, and in many cases, you will make a note of it.

All the actors in the film have done their best. Kangana Ranaut is the star of the film, and I don’t think any other actor would have played this character so well. Rajkummar Rao, on the other hand, is different from what we have seen. For a change, he plays the gray shade of his characters with ease. Besides them, the cast includes eminent names like Amyra Dastur, Jimmy Shergill, Hussain Dala, and Amrita Puri.

I wouldn’t reveal a lot about the film but is worth experiencing. Seldom do filmmakers in Bollywood attempt such genres, but Judgementall Hai Kya takes this a level up. However, I personally believe, that the makers wanted to offer more, but restricted keeping the commercial aspects and the masses in mind. There are scenes which seem repetitive and might bore the audience. The makers could have pushed the envelope more and tried to explore the subject more.

Despite being dark and disturbing, the film will entertain you, and keep you hooked. Overall, Judgementall Hai Kya is satisfying as film lovers would thoroughly enjoy this daring attempt.
