Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has been accused of sexual assault by a woman who assisted him during ‘Sanju’.
On Sunday, HuffPost India published news in which said that the producer has sexually assaulted the women for over a period of six months between March and September 2018 while working for Sanju.
However, the 56 years old filmmaker has denied the allegations. A statement issued by his lawyer Anand Desai has called all the allegations as false and defamatory.
A statement issued by Hirani read, “I was completely shocked when these allegations were brought to my notice about two months back. I had suggested immediately that it is essential to take this matter to any committee or any legal body. The complainant has chosen to go to the media instead. I want to very strongly state that this is a false, malicious and mischievous story being spread with the sole intention of destroying my reputation."
The woman had alleged the charge via email on November 3, 2018, to Sanju’s co-producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It is said that she had also marked the mail to film critic and Vidhu Chopra’s wife Anupama Chopra and the writer Abhijat Joshi.
According to the report, the woman also claimed that Hirani made a sexually suggestive remark to her on April 9, 2018, and then sexually assaulted her at his home-cum-office. She asserted that she was maintaining a disguise of normalcy about Hirani's behaviour during work because her father was ill and she needed to hold on to her job. She remembered the words that she had mentioned to the Sanju producer, "I remember forming these words on my lips - 'Sir. This is wrong... because of this power structure. You being the absolute power and me being a mere assistant, a nobody - I will never be able to express myself to you."
Rajkumar Hirani is well known for producing movies like ‘Munna Bhai’ series, ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘PK’.
