On the brighter side of the news spectrum, the Department of Telecommunications on Tuesday, July 21, extended the relaxation in terms and conditions to facilitate work from home till December 31, 2020, in a move that was welcomed by several leaders of the Indian IT industry.

Since March, the IT industry of India has moved over 90 per cent of its 4.3 million workforce to work remotely due to the COVID-19 induced lockdown. The exemption to work from home was going to end in the month of July. However, in the midst of the pandemic, this comes as a relief to several employees in the IT industry who have been working from home. Rishad Premji, Chairperson of Wipro, further took to Twitter to thank the government for the move, in showing support for the industry and for caring about its employees.

Debjani Ghosh, President of Nasscom, also took to Twitter to speak about the support that has been shown towards the IT industry.

According to media reports, most companies are touted to move to a blended working model where a percentage of employees will permanently work from home. TCS, which happens to be the largest IT company in India has, in fact, stated that they intend to have only 25 per cent of their workforce working from offices by 2025. Most of India's top IT companies have so far asked over 90 per cent of their employees continue to work remotely.
