Along with an NGO, Mumbai Police will set up 100 Sanitary napkin vending machines for women police force in the police station. It was inaugurated on April 8, in the Mumbai Police Headquarters by Sharmila Barve, wife of Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve and will come into effect soon.

Whether it's the police force or any other job, women have been at par with men in all fields alike. The police force has been increasing the percentage of women employees since the past few years. Compared to other government jobs for women employees, the work women police do is different. Considering this, women employees should not be at a disadvantage during their menstrual cycle.

For this purpose, 100 sanitary napkin vending machines will be set up under the 'Smart Maitrin (friend) Campaign' in police stations.

As stated by ANI, Niyati Thakkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) said that women constitute nearly 20 per cent of the total police force in Mumbai. This should be the basic facility at the workplace, as periods are natural and unpredictable.
