Update released as of April 11, 2020, states that the total number of COVID-19 patients in the state of Maharashtra has reached 1666; and as of 12 pm, the number of cases had increased by 92. Data reveals that 110 deaths were recorded so far in the state, and 188 patients have been discharged.

With an increase of 72 cases, Mumbai crossed the 1000-mark and the total number in the city was recorded at 1080 cases. An increase was seen in other cities too. Until today, 220 cases were recorded in Pune, 35 in Thane, 35 in Navi Mumbai and 35 in Kalyan-Dombivli.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had released the ward-wise data for the city of Mumbai, which revealed that as of April 10, 2020, the areas of Worli, Grant Road and Byculla were the most affected. So far, the officials have sealed more than 380 areas in the city as containment zones and more than 200 locations have been identified as hotspots. Curfew-like restrictions and strict rules have been imposed in these areas and people are not allowed to leave the house even for essentials. Officials are delivering them to the doorstep.

Within a few days, the cases in Dharavi have increased and as of April 11, 2020, the 28 cases were recorded from the slums. This has affected the local business. In our exclusive video coverage, Mumbai Live visited Dharavi (with due permissions from the Police) to understand the scenario and how the lockdown has affected the lives and business. Further, the locals also shared their thoughts on how social distancing was a matter of concern in Asia's largest slum.

Looking at the current scenario, Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Uddhav Thackeray will look at extending the lockdown in Mumbai and nearby areas, for some more weeks. Reports state that he was planning to discuss the same in a meeting with PM Narendra Modi, on Saturday. In the previous meeting held with the CMs, PM Modi had asked the respective state governments to follow a staggered exit approach to end the lockdown, but the number of cases in India has increased exponentially, especially in the state of Maharashtra, which has the most number of cases in the city.
