On Thursday, April 9, 2020, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) identified 200 hotspots in the city where the spread of coronavirus needs to be controlled. With an aim to take strict actions in these critical conditions, BMC officials have decided to impose curfew-like restrictions in these areas, which have been brought in effect immediately, until further notice.

It is said that this move will help the team contain the viral infection, and the decision was taken after the Delhi government considered the model of stringent restrictions in containment zones. As per regulations, people are strictly told not to leave the houses, and all the essential items will be delivered at respective doors. Only members who are doctors or healthcare officials can leave the premises.

Addressing the same, BMC commissioner, Praveen Pardeshi has said that movement in high-risk areas, will be monitored closely with the help of police and ward members.

So far, 381 containment zones have been mapped in Mumbai and these areas have been categorized as high, moderate and low-risk zones. To identify the same, they have been marked as red, orange and blue-zones respectively, to make sure the resources and duties are managed well under the lockdown.

Except for medical shops, nothing else will be open in high-risk areas. Even the vegetable markets have been closed due to crowding and security will be strengthened in these areas to make sure people follow the same. The state education minister, Varsha Gaikwad, said that such decisions are important for areas like Dharavi, and the next few days would be crucial for the city.

Officials also state that more areas are being mapped and screened for hotspots. As of Thursday, April 9, 2020, 1364 cases tested positive in Maharashtra, out of which 876 cases were from Mumbai. Maharashtra saw the biggest jump in 'per day' reports and recorded an increase of 224 cases in a day.
