The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had planned a 15% water supply cut in several parts of Mumbai due to the proposed replacement of the 2750 mm diameter Tansa water pipeline, which supplies water from the Tansa Dam to the Bhandup water purification plant. The work, involving removal of the old pipeline and installation of a new one, was expected to take approximately 24 hours and reduce the water flow to the Bhandup plant by about 15%.
As a result, a water cut from 10 am on December 3 to 10 am on December 4 was scheduled across 14 administrative divisions: A, C, D, G South and G North in the Mumbai City district; H East, H West, K West, P South, P North, R South and R Central in the western suburbs; and L and S wards in the eastern suburbs.
However, lakhs of followers visit Mumbai every year on the occasion of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Mahaparinirvan Din. To ensure they do not face any inconvenience, the BMC has announced that the planned 15% water cut has been cancelled.
