There is only 19.5 percent water storage left in the dams that supply water to Mumbai. Therefore, Mumbai is likely to face a water shortage crisis.


Mumbai Municipal Corporation has written to the state government to get more water from Upper Vaitrana and Bhatsa dams. Mumbai is supplied with water from seven reservoirs. Only 19.5 percent of the water is left in the seven dams that supply water to Mumbai namely Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Madhya Vaitrana, Bhatsa, Vihar, Tulsi.

In the same month in 2022, the water storage was 23 percent during the same period in May. It is for this reason that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has written a letter and requested the state government to get additional water storage.

The civic body has made a demand to the state government that the remaining water from Upper Vaitrana and Bhatsa dams should be given to Mumbai.

Modak Sagar - 29 percent

Tansa - 31 percent

Middle Vaitarna - 13 percent

Bhatsa -18 percent

Vihar - 35 percent

Tulsi- 36 percent
