Fire accidents are tragic incidents indicating the carelessness of humans as majority of the accidents that occur, happen due to a human error. In the last six years, there have been 29,140 fire accidents in Mumbai and more than 300 deaths have been reported.
The information was received when activist Shakeel Ahmed Sheikh filed an RTI asking the Mumbai Fire Brigade about the information regarding the number of fire accidents throughout the last six years and the number of deaths due to the fire accidents in Mumbai.

The RTI further revealed that the 29,140 accidents happened in the city from 2012 to 2018 in which 300 people died and 925 people were injured in the tragedy whereas 120 fire brigade officers and staff were injured. Here are the details of the RTI and an report of the fire accidents on yearly basis:
There were 4756 fire accidents during 2012-2013. In this accident, 62 people died. As many as 177 people were injured in the tragedy. 13 fire brigade officers and staff were injured.
There were 4400 fire accidents during 2013-14. In this accident, 58 people died whereas 141 people were injured in the accident. 29 fire brigade officers and staff were injured.
There were 4842 fire accidents during 2014-15. 32 people died in this accident whereas 125 people were injured in the tragedy. Also, 31 fire brigade officers and staff were injured.
There were a total of 5212 fire accidents during 2015 - 2016. In this accident, 47 people died and 128 people were injured. Five fire brigade officers and employees died and 23 were injured.
In Mumbai, 2017 - 2017 total of 5021 fire accidents have occurred. 34 people died in this accident and 115 people were injured. 13 fire brigade officers and staff were injured.
There were a total of 4927 fire accidents in 2017-2018 in Mumbai. 55 people died and 219 people were injured in the tragedy whereas eight fire brigade officers and staff were injured.
There have been 710 fire accidents in Mumbai between January and April this year. Five people have died and 20 people were injured during the accident. Three fire brigade officers and staff were injured.
Two days prior, a Level IV fire broke out at a building in Fort. On the basis of data provided by the RTI, Mumbai has more than 4,000 fire accidents every year. Now there are two questions that we need to ask the authorities:
