Another death has been reported in the Tardeo fire tragedy that occurred last week taking the toll to eight on Thursday, January 27.

Madhuri Chopadekar, a 35-year-old young woman, has succumbed to her injuries at 12:30 pm in Kasturba hospital, six days after being admitted in a critical condition.

She was among the 24 injured admitted to Bhatia, Nair, Kasturba and Masina Hospitals after the fire brigade mounted a rescue operation to remove trapped residents from the high rise building in Mumbai.

Moreover, out of the remaining victims, currently, five are in critical condition and five are stable at Bhatia Hospital, whereas one is in critical condition at Masina Hospital, Byculla.

For those unversed, seven people were announced dead and at least 19 others were said to be injured in the massive fire that broke out in the morning on Saturday, January 22, 2022, in a 20-storey building located in South Mumbai's Tardeo area. Officials informed that the the fire broke out at approximately 7.30 am on the 18th floor of the Kamala building situated near Bhatia Hospital. Rescue teams rushed to the spot to control the situation and the concerned department announced it to be a level 3 fire incident.

It took five hours, 13 fire tenders and seven water tankers to douse the flames, which was reported around 7.30 am on Saturday, January 22.
