According to latest reports, the Maharashtra Government has decided to announce relaxations towards coronavirus restrictions in 25 districts of the state including Mumbai and Thane.

With the Mumbai locals are currently ferrying people engaged in essential services only, several citizens have been reportedly flouting the COVID-19 norms on the suburban railway system.

Accordingly, action has been taken against more than 54,000 passengers travelling without tickets on the Central Railway in July. However, it has come to light that this is the highest increase in the last four months.

As per reports, from July 1 to July 28, 2021, action has been taken against 54,120 ticketless passengers on the suburban railway. A fine of INR 1.80 crores have been recovered from such passengers.

Moreover, in the last four months, 4,094 people were caught travelling with fake identity cards of essential service personnel. The fake IDs have been seized.

In April 2021, action was taken against 28,910 ticketless passengers. This was followed by 32,907 in May and 40,525 in June. From April 2021 to July 2021, 4,094 fake identity cards have been seized.

According to latest reports, the Maharashtra Government has decided to announce relaxations towards coronavirus restrictions in 25 districts of the state including Mumbai and Thane. However, in spite of the meeting between CM Uddhav Thackeray and the State COVID Task Force, no decision has been made with regards to permitting the general public to travel via local trains in Mumbai.

State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that these districts have been moved to Level 2 under the state’s grading system for COVID-19 restrictions. Although officials are undecided on the date that these new relaxations will come into effect, there should be more clarity on this matter over the next few days.
