The corridor aims to strengthen the Central Railway’s suburban network, providing a dedicated double-line suburban route between Panvel and Karjat. This new link will substantially enhance connectivity across Navi Mumbai, Raigad district, and nearby growing urban centres. It will also reduce pressure on the existing suburban network and shorten travel time for thousands of daily commuters.
The INR 2,782-crore project has achieved over 80% physical progress.
Land acquisition, including private, government and forest land, has been completed.
Construction of bridges and tunnels is largely finished.
All three tunnels on the route are complete, with final lining work nearing completion.
Station buildings and passenger amenities at Panvel, Chikhale, Mohape, Chowk and Karjat are in the final stages.
Several facilities, such as booking offices, circulation areas, staff quarters, FOBs and suburban buildings, are already operational.
Track linking is underway across multiple sections through ballast formation and rail panel unloading.
Ongoing tasks include yard remodelling, platform development and COP foundation works.
Electronic interlocking tests at Mohape and Chowk have been successfully completed.
Once operational, the Panvel–Karjat corridor will deliver a major boost to regional connectivity, decongest existing lines, and support the long-term expansion of Mumbai’s suburban rail network.
