Ahead of Maharashtra Polls And Navratri Coinciding, Mumbai Police All Set To Tighten Security

The Vidhan Sabha elections are all set to be held in the month of October. However, as the festivals like Diwali, Durga pooja and Navratri are coinciding with it, the Mumbai Police said in an official statement that they're going to tighten the security and the lists of anti-social elements are yet to be finalized.

They further said that along with police personnel, paramilitary troopers will also be deployed to increase the security. As a preventive measure to date over 10,621  people have been arrested under section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) which states that the executive magistrate has the power to apprehend any individual for not more than a year on information that a person is likely to disturb peace and public tranquility. Notably, there were 10,940 arrests last year with regards to the same.  

As compared to 3,309 people in 2018, action against 3,318 people have been taken under section 110 of CrPC which states security for good behavior from habitual offenders. Twelve people have been charged under the stringent MCOCA while 17 cases have been filed under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA).
