Amid rising concerns of the new coronavirus variant, Omicron, Mumbai has once again pulled up its socks and ramped up the COVID-19 testing drive for the passengers arriving in the city by railways, reports stated.

This development comes after Mumbai reported five Omicron cases.

The Railway authorities have intensified checking at various railway stations across the city. Authorities have installed 4-5 testing booths at railway stations. Moreover, people are being tested at other public places.

Besides, the Mumbai civic body mandated all domestic passengers landing to carry a negative RT-PCR report not older than 72 hours. In addition, the Mumbai Police imposed Section 144 over the weekend to prevent large gatherings and rallies.

Moreover, days after one Omicron positive case was detected in Asia’s largest slum cluster, the BMC will implement three-point response for Dharavi to curb the spread of the virus.

Earlier, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a fresh set of guidelines to ensure proper monitoring of travellers coming to the city from ‘countries of concern’.

Meanwhile, the civic body has made it mandatory for Mumbaikars to be fully vaccinated in order to use public transportation.
