According to reports, the Mumbai Traffic Police issued an order informing that the Andheri Subway will remain closed for vehicular and pedestrian movement every night from June 21 to September 30 between 10 pm and 6 am.

The decision has been taken in the view of waterlogging during monsoon in the low lying areas of Andheri Subway and is highly risky for motorists and pedestrians to use.

This comes as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted light to moderate rain in Mumbai and suburbs with a possibility of occasional intense spells on Monday, June 21.

In an order, the traffic police said the step has been taken to avoid any accident or loss of life due to waterlogging. They also suggested alternate routes for commuters. The motorists are advised to take the Balasaheb Thackeray flyover Bridge in Jogeshwari, Milan Subway at Vakola in Santacruz, and Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge in Andheri.

Andheri subway is a crucial East-West connector and there is likely to be more stress on other connectors.

During the intense spells of rains in the last couple of weeks and amid Cyclone Tauktae, there were major waterlogging issues at Andheri subway, due to which it was rendered shut until the water subsided, reports suggested.
