The wait is finally over for the residents of Bombay Development Directorate (BBD) chawls residents.

In recent developments, Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad has informed the media that the redevelopment work is to finally be completed. Moreover, he added, “The foundation stone laying ceremony for the redevelopment will be done by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party Chief Sharad Pawar on July 27.”

According to reports, the proposed redevelopment project will be the major urban renewal project in southeast Asia. In addition, this announcement came days after the CM Thackeray, on June 29, directed the housing department officers that no one should become homeless while redeveloping the BDD chawls. Furthermore, he had stated that care should be taken in rehabilitating each family from these chawls.

On the other hand, in order to provide affordable housing, rehabilitation buildings had earlier been constructed at Joshi Marg, Lower Parel for the people of Mumbai. Moreover, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Jitendra Awhad inaugurated the same and distributed the flats to 272 eligible tenants in the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) transition corridor through the computer lottery system.

According to reports, State Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad, Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray, Aslam Shaikh as well as senior government officials and MHADA representatives attended the event.
