BEST Starts Its Free Services For BMC School Kids

In a bid to give impetus to Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) buses and Brihanmumumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) school kids, BEST had announced that it will provide free bus services for school children.

In a bid to give impetus to Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) buses and Brihanmumumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) school kids, BEST had announced that it will provide free bus services for school children. BEST started the services of a free bus ride for BMC school kids from Thursday, February 20.

Talking about the same, State Environment and Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray tweeted, "53,000+ BMC school students take the BEST bus to school and back for free. This initiative was launched 3 years ago by CM Uddhav Thackeray ji."

In addition to this, specially-abled commuters can also avail free bus services. Moreover, senior citizens can avail 50 per cent concessions in BEST buses. To ensure that this move is not misused, BEST authorities have stated that children can only avail free bus service on their school route during the school timings by showing a valid ID card. A BMC official stated that the idea of the BMC is to revamp the education infrastructure also BEST is in the process of face-lifting its image. With this step, the authorities want to make sure that more students use the bus service, so they are aware of the improved service during the formation years of their lives.

Further, to improve the quality of education in the BMC Schools, Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad and Aaditya Thackeray had announced that ICSE and CBSE curriculum will be implemented in Woollen Mill Municipal School in Dadar and Poonam Nagar Municipal School in Andheri respectively. The admission for the same will start from February 27 and will continue till March 15. Only 30-40 students will be admitted in each class till Grade 6.  Moreover, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had stated that Municipal Schools in the state will soon adopt Delhi's education policy.
