After the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Workers' Union had announced a protest from October 9 to 14, the strike has been postponed. The Workers' Union had previously indicated that they will stage an indefinite strike over the unfulfillment of their demands.

But the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) approached the labour court on Monday, opposing the strike whereas BEST undertaking approached the industrial court. Accordingly, a decision regarding the strike will now be taken after the court hearing.

Union leader Shashank Rao had said that the bus corporation had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the union in June 2019 after which it "allowed" the BEST to go ahead with decisions such as wet-leasing of buses.

However, he claimed that their demands, such as wage revision, have not been met. BEST management has already signed agreements with the Shiv Sena and BJP union office bearers. But notably, Rao's union has dominance among BEST employees.
