The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has allowed all beaches, gardens and public grounds in Mumbai to remain open on all days from 6 am to 10 pm.

Moreover, the BMC has also appealed to the people to follow the COVID-appropriate rules while visiting all these places.

Since the rate of coronavirus infection in Maharashtra has come down, decisions related to unlocking are being taken continuously under the break the chain campaign.

In this sequence, the civic body has decided to open all grounds, gardens and sea phase, sea front and beach of Mumbai from Monday, August 16.

Moreover, in a relief for Mumbaikars, the state government has allowed fully vaccinated commuters to travel by local trains from Sunday, August 15.

Besides, last week, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government eased more curbs in the states as it allowed restaurants and hotels to operate till 10 pm extending their earlier 4 pm deadline. Hotels and restaurants have been allowed to operate but with only 50 per cent capacity and with all necessary COVID-precautions in place.

The state government also allowed malls to reopen from August 15, but the relaxations come with a rider, as only those fully vaccinated will be given entry.

Bombay High Court praises BMC

The civic body’s model of handling COVID-19 situation in both waves has been applauded by many countries and institutes across the world, including the World Health Organization (WHO). 

Not only this, the way BMC is vaccinating Mumbaikars by running the vaccination campaign smoothly is also an example for many. In this regard, the Bombay High Court has also patted the BMC's vaccination model as successful and said that other local bodies should also adopt this model.

While praising the BMC, the Bombay High Court said that BMC is going in the right direction regarding the vaccination campaign. At the same time, the bench also appreciated the implementation of the door-to-door vaccination campaign for bed-ridden and elderly.

The court further said that this model of BMC should be accepted and implemented by other municipal corporations as well.
