After three out of the four municipal commissioners were transferred over the last few months, it has now been decided by the BMC that departments like roads, bridges as well as storm-water drains will report directly to BMC Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi.

This comes after the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) decided to reassign four IAS officers who acted as Additional Municipal Commissioners (AMC) at the BMC.

Recently, the state transferred IAS officer Manisha Mhaiskar from her post as Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department (II). She was reassigned to the post of the Chief Protocol Officer of the State, which is considered a side posting going by her older postings. The vacant post was assigned to the Food and Civil Supplies Secretary M D Pathak.

Meanwhile, Film City Managing Director Jayshree Bhoj has been appointed as an AMC of the BMC. In what is considered a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the state recently transferred 22 officials which included Additional Commissioner of the BMC Pravin Darade.

It’s worth noting that Darade was considered a close confidant of former CM of Maharashtra and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis. Darade, who was also considered Fadnavis’ “blue-eyed boy”, was under scrutiny after a bungalow in Malabar Hill was appointed to him in 2014. He was the BMC Additional Commissioner at the time.

He will be replaced by P Velrasu as the new BMC additional commissioner. Velrasu is a Member-Secretary of the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran.
