In order to ensure that COVID-19 vaccines are more accessible, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) looks to commence night vaccination initiatives in certain areas in the arriving days, highlighted reports.

Apart from this, the civic body also hopes to commence the “My office, a safe space” campaign to target professional homes to propel 100 per cent inoculation amongst their employees, reports state.

The civic body is of the opinion that such initiatives will enable to augment the rate of the second vaccination. Presently, 105 per cent of Mumbai’s 92.3 lakh adult population have been administered their first jab. However, a mere 79 per cent are fully inoculated.

According to reports, Dr Mangala Gomare, BMC executive health officer, elucidated on how the idea is to especially reach the floating population who cannot take a break from work to get vaccinated.

Presently, the majority of the coronavirus vaccination centres are operational from 9 am to 5 pm. However, officials from the civic body are considering avenues by which the drive can be prolonged to 10 pm.

Dr Gomare mentioned that whilst a decision has been undertaken in this regard, a few days will be taken to fine-tune the plan. Additionally, in the last 10 days, vaccination numbers have picked up since the news of the new variant of COVID-19, Omicron.

Based on narratives, the BMC health department has written to healthcare establishments to fully inoculate their workers. Apart from this, the civic body will commence an awareness drives employing mobile vans with mikes that will provide vaccine details.
