The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) offices across Mumbai will resume the Biometric Attendance System. The BMC will be restarting this system from January 1, 2022.

Last week, the civic body had issued a circular to all its offices across Mumbai, directing them to make sure that biometric machines are working without any glitches.

The municipal corporation across the city has around 1 lakh employees. The employees are working in the headquarter at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus area, 24 administrative ward offices, and other central agency offices.

The circular stated that under the 'Break The Chain' guidelines, all government establishments are asked to have 100% attendance. The HODs are also asked to make sure that all the biometric systems are fully functional in their offices before December 31.

They have asked the concerned officials to keep sanitisers beside the biometric machines. The circular also mentions that civic officials should make sure that social distancing is followed during the attendance marking process.

The biometric attendance was stopped by the BMC in all the civic offices since the COVID-19 outbreak from March 16, 2020. The administration had taken that decision to prevent the virus from spreading as the staff had to put their fingers on the machines.
