BMC orders removal of political banners from vaccination centres

According to reports, the BMC has received several complaints in recent times about the banners and hoardings which stated the donations made by politicians at the facilities.

On Thursday, June 3, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal asked civic officials to remove political banners and hoardings from vaccination centres.

Moreover, the civic body asked for the removal of advertisements, banners or hoardings put up by corporators, MLAs, MPs and others at vaccination centres should be removed if they are not taken down upon request, he said in the order.

According to reports, the BMC has received several complaints in recent times about the banners and hoardings which stated the donations made by politicians at the facilities. Meanwhile, Mumbai has 323 active vaccination centres for the coronavirus including 79 at private hospitals and 20 at government hospitals. Moreover, the civic body has opened at least one vaccination centre in every ward.

Earlier on Thursday, due to the shortage of doses, the BMC had suspended the inoculation drive. In addition, so far, 33,74,261 people have been administered vaccine doses for the coronavirus in Mumbai whereas as many as 49,833 jabs were given on Wednesday.

On the other hand, the BMC has been appreciated across the world for its work in battling the COVID-19 pandemic in Mumbai. In recent developments, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal held a meeting and interacted with the Municipal Commissioners of the state online and guided them, in order to effectively defeat the coronavirus, and curb the rising instances of COVID-19 cases. Commissioners and senior officials of various Municipal Corporations of the state of Maharashtra were present on this occasion.
