Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been appreciated across the world for its work in battling the COVID-19 pandemic in Mumbai.

In recent developments, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal held a meeting and interacted with the Municipal Commissioners of the state online and guided them, in order to effectively defeat the coronavirus, and curb the rising instances of COVID-19 cases. Commissioners and senior officials of various Municipal Corporations of the state of Maharashtra were present on this occasion.

According to sources, the BMC Commissioner spoke about the following measures:

  • Contact tracing of the person infected with the coronavirus. Moreover, making the COVID-19 report available in time has proven to be beneficial.
  • War rooms provided to be crucial that were set up in all the 24 administrative departments to provide beds to the patients as per the need.
  • Emphasis was placed on beds, supply of oxygen, supply of medicines, search for patients in contact with infected patients.
  • An emergency program was launched to reduce the number of patients to zero.

On the other hand, days after the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government announced the setting up of a paediatric task force, the BMC said that they will provide special training, guidance to the paediatricians across the city.

This move comes as a third wave of the pandemic, which is likely to affect children in more numbers, is expected to hit Maharashtra and other states across the nation in August-September. As part of this new campaign, the civic body has directed the assistant municipal commissioners of all 24 wards of BMC to take initiate the special training for paediatricians in their respective ward and organize training programs. These training programs will be conducted in batches to ensure social and physical distancing.
