According to reports, on Tuesday, June 1, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) proposed to increase the amount for spitting in public from INR 200 to INR 1,200.

Moreover, BMC Chief Iqbal Singh Chahal recently gave a nod to the proposal for increasing the existing fine amount. However, reports state that the proposal will have to be cleared by the general body of BMC before it is to be approved by the Maharashtra government as it involves amending the Greater Mumbai Cleanliness and Sanitation bylaws 2006.

The fine for spitting, which happens to be INR 200, has been so for the last several years across the city. According to officials, the Bombay High Court while hearing a petition, had questioned why the civic body slaps the fine of only INR 200 for spitting at public places whereas the police fined the violators INR 1,200.

On the other hand, as Maharashtra continues to conduct the vaccination drive across the city of Mumbai, Infiniti Mall (Malad) in association with the civic body of Mumbai, kick-started a drive-in vaccination facility for citizens in the parking lot from Friday, May 28 2021.

Moreover, Municipal Councillor, Smt. Jaya Satnam Singh Tiwana inaugurated the free vaccination drive. According to sources, all citizens above the age of 45 can avail themselves of the coronavirus vaccine free of cost with prior registration on the Cowin app. The drive-in is being held at Infiniti Mall, Malad from 10 am – 5 pm.
