Mumbai is one of the worst affected cities where coronavirus (COVID-19) cases are rising exponentially. Following the directives issued by the Maharashtra Government, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed strict guidelines to curb the spread of the virus. Night curfew has been implemented in the city from 8 pm to 7 am. Meanwhile, restaurants and bars have allowed to operate only the delivery model. There is also weekend curfew that has been imposed in the state.

Following this, the BMC, on Saturday, April 10, 2021, allowed wine shops across the city to deliver liquor across Mumbai. This permission has been given to selected shops that have the license for the same, and the service can be operated only between 7am to 8pm where the COVID-19 guidelines are strictly followed.

Meanwhile, selected citizens can get themselves vaccinated at the respective centres for which travel permissions have been issued by the BMC. The civic body, on Saturday, April 10, 2021, received 99,000 doses of the Covishield which as per the directives will be given to the centres run by the government. More than 75 vaccination centres in Mumbai closed on Friday, Aprill 9, 2021, due to the shortage in supply and the CM has asked the central government for support in this matter. Last week, the Maharashtra government had informed that the state does not have enough supply of vaccines, and due to the same, several vaccination centres were forced to shut down.

On the other hand, COVID-19 cases in Mumbai are on a rise. CM Uddhav Thackeray-led government has currently imposed night curfew on weekdays and a strict lockdown over the weekends, however, the COVID-19 task force has asked the CM to impose a strict lockdown which would help in containing the spread of the infection. Following these suggestions, the cabinet is currently mulling over implementing the same, and decision regarding a strict lockdown will be announced in the next few days.

Mumbai, on Friday, April 9, reported over 9000 cases and 35 deaths, with more than 90,000 active cases. Maharashtra, on Saturday, April 10, 2021, reported more than 58,000 cases with 301 deaths.

Over the last few days, several ministers from the ruling party have mentioned that the central government has been biased towards providing vaccines and medical supplies to BJP-run states. Former CM of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan also mentioned that PPE kits and ventilators are being given in abundance to preferred states than Maharashtra which needs the most at this hour.

Meanwhile, an all-party meeting was recently held by the CM, via online conferencing, whereby he asked the parties to support the decision taken by the government to control COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra.
