According to the data shared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the number of sealed buildings and floors has witnessed a 300 per cent rise in a month.

On February 26, the number of sealed floors stood at 1,849. However, with the rise in cases of coronavirus, they now stand at 7,475. Moreover, sealed buildings during the period have increased to 578 from 161. In addition, containment zones in slums and chawls, too, have multiplied to 64 from 12.

The state of Maharashtra had reported its first case in March 2020, which was followed by stringent shutdowns and curbs that were being lifted in a staggered manner only over the past few months. Moreover, the local train services for all resumed for the general public recently.

On the other hand, the civic body had earlier decided it will file first information reports (FIR) against home quarantine violators and then send them to mandatory institutional quarantine, under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.

Moreover, the state government is taking necessary measures to contain the spread of the disease further urging the citizens to show support. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked people to follow the norms strictly by wearing masks when in public and maintaining a social distance at all times. If the citizens flout the rules and if the cases do not reduce, the government will consider imposing a lockdown. In addition, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope stated that the lockdown would be considered as an option if people do not show their support in managing the crisis.
