The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will conduct amenity upgrades and structural repairs at the jumbo coronavirus treatment facilities at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), Dahisar, and Mulund over the next 15 days, the civic body said. This is being done as part of its preparations for the upcoming monsoon season in Mumbai.

This decision was taken in a meeting between the Additional Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal accompanied by the deans of all six jumbo Covid centres and nine departments that provide the necessary tools to the Covid centres. Jaiswal is tasked with managing the creation of jumbo Covid treatment facilities.

“Along with structural stability of these centres, civil works, including repair of ACs, toilets, floorings, drains and water connections will be undertaken. Fire and electrical audit will be undertaken and healthcare facilities spruced up,” he said.

“Since these facilities have been in since the last one year, strengthening work is necessary,” Jaiswal said adding that even though the BKC centre will not admit new patients during the repairs, it will continue vaccinations.

“The vaccination centre has been shifted from the Mulund jumbo centre and the location of the centre at Dahisar is also being changed,” he further said.

Although the audit reports of six jumbo centres are yet to be submitted, officials came to a conclusion during the meeting that repair works will also be carried out at Worli’s NSCI, NESCO in Goregaon, and the centre in Byculla in addition to the centres in BKC, Dahisar, and Mulund.
