According to sources, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to take on a new initiative in the New Year which is going to aid the residents of Mumbai to deal with emergency situations better.

This initiative is touted to be a first responder training programme for 50 residents, starting Monday. As per reports, instances such as buildings collapse, elevator accidents, vehicle accidents, sea and river drowning, drowning in drains, falling into pits, small and big fires, gas accidents, short circuits and landslides cause loss of life across the city due to which the civic body is to teach the people in the city to deal with such unexpected incidents in the future.

Speaking about the same, Shiv Sena Corporator Anil Kokil stated, “First Response Training Program has been organized for the citizens of Ward No. 204 of Parel area in the presence of BMC Disaster Department on January 4 at 11 AM, in the City Disaster Management and Training Center, Sai Baba Path, Parel.

The training program will be inaugurated by Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani. Citizens trained by the BMC will be further able to help fire personnel on their own in case of any disaster anywhere in their area. Especially injured, critically ill people will get immediate help and also get timely medical treatment. Such training also aims to reduce the risk of financial loss from accidents.”

Training will be available in all wards

The BMC is to train the citizens of all the wards. According to the civic body, this training will be imparted to the citizens in a department-wise manner and in several stages. Trained people will be able to use the skills acquired even in a war-like situation, the officials said in a statement.
