The primary reason for banning the clicking of photographs at Girgaon Chowpatty is to enforce crowd management and avoid any mishaps. Alongside, the filming of Ganpati idols has been restricted too.
Festivals are a significant aspect of a person’s life and as a memory, people usually click photographs. However, this year you may not be able to click photos at Girgaon Chowpatty during Visarjan. Bombay High Court has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Mumbai Police to ban clicking photos at Girgaon Chowpatty during Visarjan.
The decision has been made since every year, during the immersion ritual, there is a lot of crowd surrounding the idol, who are catching the last glimpse of Lord Ganesha. At such times, photographers and people clicking photos from their mobile phones create a lot of problems.
Also, since a lot of idols of Ganpati Mandals are big, the idols are pushed into the water. In order to avoid hurting sentiments of the devotees, Mumbai Police and BMC have decided to stop the filming of idols during Visarjan.
The officials have also put a board stating that 'No photos allowed during Visarjan'.
If anyone is found clicking photos, then the person will be made to delete the photo. Also, clicking photographs can also result in the confiscation of phones or cameras.
