On Friday morning at 4.58 am, a ground plus one storey residential building collapsed in Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, Mumbai. This left three people dead.

According to reports, civic officials mentioned that 10 were injured. Out of which, seven were sent to Rajawadi Hospital whilst three were sent to Sion Hospital. Of the seven admitted to Rajawadi Hospital, Neha Shaikh and Mokar Shaikh, 35 and 80 respectively were declared dead when brought in.

On the other hand, Shamshad Shaikh, 45, passed away whilst undergoing treatment.

The other injured are claimed to be in a stable condition, but additional details are awaited.

Owing to the intense spells of rain in Mumbai, public life has been disrupted. For instance, earlier on Monday, a landslide was reported near GTB Nagar thus, as a precautionary measure, 28 people were evacuated by the BMC. Previously, two landslides at Mahul and Surya Nagar in Vikhroli were also reported in the city.

Earlier in the week, 20 feet of water had made its way into an underground parking lot in Mumbai’s Kandivali. 400 vehicles were reportedly submerged.

With incessant rains across the state, CM Uddhav Thackeray had a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appraising him about the current situation. Details about the rescue and relief work were shared with him, and the PM has assured the state of all possible support.
