On Monday, September 13, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced INR 20 lakhs for the dependents of the Saki Naka rape and murder victim.

The announcement was made by Mumbai Police commissioner Hemant Nagrale during a press conference where he also mentioned that the sum will be given from the chief minister's relief fund and other government schemes.

Moreover, Thackeray also chaired a high-level meeting with chiefs of all police forces, Government Railway Police (GRP) commissioner and senior officials of state home department regarding women safety issues in the state.

Further stating details, Nagrale said that the weapon that was used in the crime has been recovered by the police.

He also stated that the investigation will be completed within 15 days and that the charge sheet in the case will be filed within one month.

The DNA profiling report will also be attached with the charge sheet, he said.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had condemned the heinous rape-murder of a woman in Mumbai’s Sakinaka. In light of this, he proclaimed that the case be fast-tracked, in addition to instructing the Mumbai Police to accelerate the inquiry and ensuring that the case’s charge sheet be filed in a month.

The 32-year-old later succumbed to her injuries at a civic-run hospital in the city, while the accused has been arrested with the help of CCTV footage.
