To ensure that there isn’t traffic congestion during the rush hours in south Mumbai, the city’s traffic department has released a proclamation on limiting the movement of handcarts, reported The Indian Express.

Yogesh Kumar Deputy Commissioner of Police issued a notification stating that between 8 am and 11 am and 5 pm and 8 am all types of handcarts will not be permitted to move.

Based on the report, the said order will remain in force for a duration of one month. It is claimed that such a notification was brought into force to evade risk, hindrance and nuisance to commuters plying through the named 15 routes.

An officer, according to the report stated that the notification was introduced to avert traffic because not only are these handcarts slow but are also often seen walking in the middle of the road, resulting in congestions.

The 15 roads as reported on which the notification will be applicable includes:

  1. Abdul Rehman Street, LT road junction to YM road junction
  2. DN road north Channel, CSTM junction to Police Commissioner Office’s corner
  3. DN road south channel, Gulshan Iran hotel to CSTM junction
  4. Kalbadevi road Tamba Kata junction to Vardhman junction
  5. LT road Badshah junction to Colombo junction
  6. LT road Kalbadevi to Sabusiddhiki junction
  7. Mallet Bunder to Karnak Bunder junction, P D’mello road south and the north channel
  8. Mandvi post office to Tamba Kata junction, Ibrahim Rahimatullah Road
  9. Nesbit Junction to Sir JJ Road towards the north side of the JJ Bridge on south and north channel
  10. Pohamal junction to Kundanlal Kata junction, Yusuf Meherali Road
  11. Ramchandra Bhatt Marg, Mohamed Ali Road to Two Tank junction
  12. Sabusiddhiki junction to Karnak bunder junction, Karnak Road
  13. SCVP Road, Prarthana Samaj junction (Reliance hospital) to Gol Temple
  14. Sheikh Memon Street, Jumma Masjid to Badshah Junction
  15. Wadi Bunder junction, SVP road to Gol temple junction south and north junction

Additionally, with local trains resuming their services to those fully vaccinated from August 15, the footfalls across major areas in the city are expected to rise.
