The coronavirus curve in Mumbai seems to be flattening. The situation seems to be more or less in control for the BMC. The efforts taken by the civic body to control the increasing number of cases in Dharavi has become a success case study, which has been commended even by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Despite the success that BMC had in these areas, a few areas continue to be pain points. Borivali and Kandivali are two areas that have been posting increasing numbers. While Borivali is currently leading the race but Kandivali is following closely on its heels.

As per the information shared by BMC on August 20, the positivity rate in Borivali currently stands at 1.37 and that of Kandivali is at 1.08. The average positivity rate for Mumbai currently is 0.78. The doubling rate for Borivali is 57 days which is the highest in the city. Even in this, Kandivali is next to Borivali. The doubling rate for Mumbai as on August 21 is 89 days.

In the month of July newer initiatives such as door-to-door screening, smart helmet screening and fever checks were introduced to contain the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19)

Moreover, the BMC has been conducting the Rapid Antigen Testing, especially in the Borivali and the Dahisar area as a result of the surge in the cases of coronavirus.

A rapid antigen test is a rapid diagnostic test suitable for point-of-care testing that directly detects the presence or absence of an antigen. This distinguishes it from other medical tests that detect antibodies or nucleic acid.

On Friday, Maharashtra reported a single-day spike of 14,161 with this the total coronavirus caseload for the state stands at 6,57,450. The total active cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra stands at 1,64,562. The recovery rate for Maharashtra now is 71.62 per cent.
