Maharashtra witnesses the highest single-day jump with 3,607 COVID-19 cases

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state has reached 97,648. As of June 11, 2020, the tally in Mumbai reached 54,085 cases. Further, Thane reported 6,998 cases and Navi Mumbai had 4,126 cases.

Data released by the Maharashtra State Health Department shows that the state has witnessed the highest single-day jump with 3,607 cases reported on June 11, 2020, taking the total tally in Maharashtra to 97, 648. Further, with 152 deaths reported on June 11, the total number of deaths has reached 3,590 taking state's mortality rate to 3.68 per cent.

With these many cases, Maharashtra continues to be the most affected state in India. On the other hand, the total number of cases in India on June 11, 2020, were 10,956 taking the tally to 2,97,535 cases.

The report also states that the total number of cases in the city of Mumbai reached 54,085, while Thane reported 6,998 cases and Navi Mumbai had 4,126 cases as of June 11, 2020.

The state government is working hard towards containing the coronavirus spread in several parts of Maharashtra, and the Uddhav Thackeray-led government also announced the 'Mission Begin Again' initiative where selected activities were permitted in the state, despite Lockdown 5.0

However,  a few days back, Uddhav Thackeray also stated that the lockdown in Maharashtra may extend beyond June 30, 2020, if the government observes people flouting rules and social distancing norms. As of now, the state has permitted some relaxations in Mumbai, Pune and other areas. However, the lockdown across containment zones in India continues until June 30, 2020, as per directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

Data released by the BMC on June 11, 2020, also shows that  Mumbai has a total of 52,445 cases. Officials have conducted 2,42,923 tests in the city of which 21 per cent cases have tested positive for COVID-19. 

As of June 10, 2020, Mumbai has a total of 809 containment zones, and 392 containment zones have been released by the BMC. Out of the 24 Wards in Mumbai, Wards R-North and Ward L have more than 100 active containment zones. Further, a total of 4,672 buildings have been sealed in Mumbai while 3,030 sealed buildings have been released from the list.
