Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday hinted that the lockdown in the state may get extended if people don’t follow the guidelines issued by the centre and state government to stop the spread of COVID-19.

In a presser after the meeting of Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of Maharashtra legislature, Thackeray said that the lockdown may continue with more restrictions if people fail to follow the guidelines and don’t respect the current level of restrictions.

Thackeray said that the threat of coronavirus still remains and asked people to avoid crowding while urging them to practice social distancing. “Now, We have to learn to live with the virus,” he said while adding that the lockdown restrictions have been eased to a major extent to start the economic activities.

There have been reports of traffic, crowd gathering in parts of Mumbai. Referring to this, the Chief Minister said that the outdoor activity under ‘Mission Begin Again’ has been allowed for the good health people and not to spoil it.

“Since the lockdown has been extended till June 30 with relaxations, any type of violation of restrictions will compel us to impose the lockdown again. However, I am confident that people will listen to the government and follow guidelines,” he said.

Meanwhile, Thackeray reiterated his demand for the resumption of suburban train services in Mumbai for essential services. The Chief Minister said that the train service in the city should start to allow the movement of employees working in essential sectors keeping them away from the troubles of commuting to work.

Last month, Thackeray had first made this demand during his virtual interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Moreover, the Maharashtra government has decided to postpone the monsoon session of the state legislature which was scheduled to start from June 22. However, the monsoon session will be held from August 3 in view of the coronavirus outbreak in the state.
