Update from the State Health Department, as of March 31, 2020, has stated that the number of Coronavirus positive cases in Maharashtra has increased by 72, taking the total to 302. Out of these, 59 cases were tested from Mumbai, three from Nagar, and two each from Pune, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Navi Mumbai and Vashi Virar.

The number of cases has seen an exponential increase and the officials are testing the people at many labs across the state. Further, CM Uddhav Thackeray has also asked the migrants not to leave their homes and necessary arrangements have been made by the ministry to ensure a controlled condition to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

It has been a week since PM Narendra Modi announced the lockdown which will be observed until April 15, 2020. Further, the state government has ensured that essentials are available across multiple cities. A few days back, the respective department had also asked the e-platforms to begin delivery services of the groceries so people do not leave the houses and stay safe at home.

The civic authority, BMC, has stated that this sudden rise in coronavirus cases is because of the tests conducted by private labs, and the results of which were cumulative of four days. Commenting on the same BMC said, "To improve testing facilities, certain private labs have been approved and 18 patients were diagnosed between date March 24 and March 28 across various private labs. All these patients are being followed up on by the BMC health department. As these 18 cases are included in the list today there appears to be a rise in cases, but it is mainly due to vigorous contact tracing by the health teams and enhanced testing in public and private labs. We are ensuring proper preventive steps to control the spread of disease."

More than one lakh homes and four lakh people have been screened for Coronavirus, and the statement further, read, "As a containment measure, areas surrounding the positive cases including 1 lakh houses and 3,87,000 people are being surveyed to trace the contacts of positive cases. The teams are also ensuring the home quarantine measures are being followed. In addition, digital mapping of the containment zone is being undertaken and it will be displayed on BMC’s website for citizen information and precaution."
