The coronavirus-induced lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi back in March, to contain the spread of the contagious disease, left many in the marginalised sectors, without any means to arrange for their daily survival.

This had many people losing their jobs and suffering financially. In order to provide for themselves and their families, in the last two months, several people have started selling home-cooked fish and vegetables in a bid to fend for themselves.

All of these new entrepreneurs selling home-cooked food are however getting a good response from their customers as they are usually selling their meals to an acquaintance or a common friend.

However, now adapting to the new normal, several vegetable sellers, are competing with the big e-commerce players by communicating with their customers on social media applications further taking their daily orders. Moreover, the surge in demand for home deliveries of perishables has seen many vendors grow savvy with regards to technology in order to survive during this crisis.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Thursday, August 20, witnessed 14,492 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the aggregate in the state to 6,43,289. The recovery rate in the state now stands at 71.37 per cent, close to the national average of 73.91 per cent.
